Personalized Power Systems Generator Lights Up Disaster Survival House at Grand Opening Event with Max Mayfield

BOCA RATON, Fla.

A power outage took place during the grand opening press conference for the Disaster Survival House, an educational center for hurricane and disaster mitigation in Deerfield Beach, Fla., but within seconds the power was restored thanks to a $25,000 automatic standby generator system that was donated by Boca Raton-based Personalized Power Systems (PPS). The staged outage served as an effective reminder of the importance of back-up power for homes in hurricane-prone South Florida.

The guest of honor at the event, National Hurricane Center Director Max Mayfield, spoke with PPS president and co-founder Hiram J. "HJ" Frank after the press conference about the significance of automatic generator systems and the company's donation to the Disaster Survival House.

"The donation and installation of such a system by PPS at the Disaster Survival House is an excellent example of private-public partnership," said Mayfield. "We commend PPS for its role in helping to educate the public about these systems and the importance of generator safety during power outages."

The Disaster Survival House serves as the headquarters for Hurricane Warning!, a nonprofit organization that teaches hurricane and disaster mitigation, safety and preparedness. The organization's educational program is taught through a tour of the home that features a hurricane laboratory, examples of window protection and wind tunnel demonstrations.

"Over the years, standby generators have been considered a must for businesses, industrial and commercial facilities that cannot afford to lose their electricity," said Frank. "Because of the barrage of storms during the last two hurricane seasons, the awareness and popularity of automatic standby emergency generators has grown dramatically, and they are quickly becoming one of the most desirable amenities of single-family homes in South Florida. We're delighted to donate such a system to the Disaster Survival House in order to help to continue educating the public about their use and benefits."

The Disaster Survival House is located at 1345 FAU Research Park Blvd. in Deerfield Beach. For more information, call 954-429-0830 or visit http://www.hurricanewarning.org.

PPS sells, installs and maintains automatic standby generator systems that power entire homes and small businesses in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties. The turnkey systems start at $17,000 including all of the necessary permitting and installation. They run on natural gas or propane from a 500-gallon underground tank and engage automatically within moments of an outage. Depending on the model, they have a run-time of five to eight days using the standard 500-gallon propane tank, which is refilled and delivered by local suppliers, or indefinitely for those connected to a natural gas line.
